Systems Accountant - London, UK

An exciting and unique position, the System Accountant will have ownership for system development, growth and evolution of both Optum’s in-house and integrated Finance & Accounting products. The roles initial focus will be on the development of a key product line for Primary Care market, however this remit will expand to cover wider health system finance and commercial system offerings.

 

The role will operate will be part of the Product Team and will report to Optum’s Business Operations Product Capability Lead. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

System Administration:

  • Become an expert user and owner for Finance of Optum’s ERP product. This will include, consolidation and analysis of systems, both procured and internally developed, and act as a first point of contact for any queries incoming from the client Finance teams and wider business

  • Manage and maintain financial setups and parameters evolving functionality to best meet clients’ needs whilst ensuring and best practices and standardization wherever possible

  • Oversee and manage the finance systems accounting schema

  • Oversee and manage changes to the organisational structure and financial management reporting suite

  • Ensure appropriate change management and approval processes are in place and adhered to

  • Ownership of system configuration including documentation, user processes and manuals and onboarding for both clients and internal resource

  • Working with their counterparts in HR, Operations and Reporting to ensure and champion a fully integrated approach across all interconnected systems

Programme Work:

  • Work within an Agile development methodology framework and in close association with the Product Owner and Product Manager, continue to develop, configure, test and document the ERP Finance Module Development

  • Provide a bridge between the Finance Product/Delivery Teams and the in-house IT development teams to best facilitate project solutions

  • Continually evolve the system by supporting ongoing pilots and subsequent system implementations to understand usage practices & make recommendations for improvements

  • Manage and facilitate effective User Acceptance Testing for new & updated systems, fixes & enhancements

  • Work with Finance Business Analysts to ensure alignment of the system with best practice and existing and future process maps

 


Required Qualifications: 
  • Must be a qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA), and able to demonstrate sound financial process knowledge

  • Extensive and successful experience gained system development and ownership

  • Excellent Excel skills to advanced formulas, VBA and PowerPivot

  • Database and management skills

  • Reporting and analytical system knowledge

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Data migration experience

  • Previous experience in product development, delivering cost reduction/transformation programmes,  product development and working in an Agile product development is desirable

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities with special attention to accuracy and detail

  • Ability to work closely and flexibly with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Ability to effectively prioritise and multi-task in high volume workload situations

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as Systems Accountant, and or in Systems Controllership role

  • Previous experience with open source ERP or Finance systems

  • Experience of the heath sector and/or NHS specifically is useful but not essential

This role is based in our Paddington office, however those with the suitable skill set/experience and live in the UK would be considered.
