The vendor management and optimization team is responsible for identifying and implementing vendor management initiatives across Optum businesses that drive significant cost reduction, improve quality and services levels, and decrease risk. The team achieves success by working closely with our business partners to develop strong relationships through collaboration, trust and accountability of finding the best solutions to meet Optum business goals. The Director, Vendor Management & Optimization is responsible for identifying, prioritizing and managing these vendor management initiatives across all Optum businesses and assigned commodities. The director is responsible for ensuring the communications and key milestones are delivered on-time for these initiatives within the business.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Vendor Management & Optimization Programs
  • Coordinate day to day vendor management & optimization activities in partnership with procurement groups, internal Optum businesses and external vendors
  • Update dashboards with key dates and project status
  • Prioritize workload on a daily basis to ensure deliverables are met in alignment with business priorities
  • Manage and communicate executive escalations as needed for Risk Operations team
  • Promote positive Net Promoter Scores through positive interactions with assigned businesses
  • Exceed goals as assigned by Optum Senior Leaders for assigned initiatives
  • Implement the High-Touch Model for acquired entities in partnership with ES&P
  • Provide input into automating the refresh process for NIAE
  • Develop relationships with assigned business partners and corporate partners. Develop partnerships built on trust and collaboration
  • Provide leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff
  • Communicate with business partner to assure needs are being satisfied
  • Influence and negotiate complex and matrixed reporting relationships
  • Develop strong relationships within VMO and Risk Operations team and exemplify our core Values on a daily basis. Always have honest communication and resolve issues quickly
  • Positively contribute to teams Vital Signs score and actively participate in action plans to improve scores

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to create and present decks on a regular basis
  • Experience in project management, operations or vendor management
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Point
  • Strong in building trusting relationship in a complex matrix business 
  • Experience working with vendors or outside suppliers
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
