Responsible for repairing and maintaining all aspects of the rail including frogs, rail-ends, turnouts, switch points, and glue joints using the arc, acetylene or thermit welding processes. Replace rail anchors, drive spikes, and tamp ballast. Assist other employees in changing out rail with rail tongs. Operate electric and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys such as aluminum, cast iron, steel, bronze, magnesium etc. Follow regulations and rules such as: safety rules, operating rules, FRA regulations, AAR rules
Must be certified to operate and maintain all railroad grinding equipment and demonstrate proficiency in welding, grinding switch pts, frogs stock rails, rail profile etc.
